A country unable to see its own disease 

can not bring democracy nor peace, 

rather spread its own illness

through

more schools for less education

homeless shelters to call home

history lessons without history

pens afraid to write of darkness.

Blood for oil 

stains our,

streets 

homes

hospitals 

hollywood 

music 

nightclubs 

shiny things

created poverty 

truth 

politicians 
uniforms

guns

planes 

bombs

democracy.

The maddows of this country will stop at nothing to justify self serving laws 

spewing hatred 

progandas as they try desperately to hold the tent of the circus together 

lest we see

the diseases destroying this country 

minds of the young 

eyes unable to see

a flag stained with death.

erected like gods

to manage the masses

never the,

sickness

pain

trauma

addiction

hunger,

sleepless nights

stress

on the streets

society bleeds hopelessness through a needle.

Minds held hostage by a pill,

unable to think

there’s an app for that

overdosed

prayers come in milligrams and doses,

dazed,

unable to see inner cities burning

neighborhoods crumbling

children searching for a drug to make life bearable,

numb

remedies

dark

cold

empty,

Wars on drugs

ushered in the need for higher doses?

I had originally written this piece about Connecticuts opioid problem but can see this spreads far beyond.

Connecticut ranked 5th in opioid overdoses, however that number may change due to the recent deaths.
